Oh god do I hate conspiracy crap.
China's top government officials didn't "unleash" the virus, they, like most authoritarian states held back the truth because that would make their powers look bad. Much like Trump drug his feet in finally facing reality. He went from calling the virus a hoax, to saying his administration has done a fantastic job handling it, despite obvious delay. Trump's reaction to this is out of Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984.
It amounts to basic human tribalism. And even evolution. If you are a wounded or sick animal, you are going to hide your disadvantage to try to avoid being prey at a moment of weakness.
