I have heard that they are nice as well but I have been visiting exmormon.org.
It isn’t pretty.
It is specially hard when the rest of the family are TBM (true believer mormon). Some cut off ties with the exmormon. If they found out that the person is gay, same deal. They drive some to want to commit suicide.
You would have to be a very evil fuck to do something like that to your family member.
Some feel suicidal when they find out that their belief is false.
There was one case where the lady stopped believing in her 50s. She pretended until her husband died.
Another case:
An archaeologist loses faith. He continus to pretend to be a mormon until near his death.
Shunning.
Or "disfellowshipping".
It's how you know it's a cult.
I had the same discussion with a JW.
"I want no part of your cult."
"We're not a cult!"
"Do you practice cutting people off from friends and family because they leave?"
"Yes."
"Then you're a cult."
Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni:
"You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???"
