Guns are supposed to be "locked up" 24/7 if they're stored where a child can access them.
The definition of locked up, as before, being very permissive.
Obviously, yes, kids are told not to touch guns. We should keep doing that...and also securing them in accordance with state and federal law. If grandads arsenal wasn't unlocked..we wouldn't have to grip our black rifles for dear life. Food for thought.
This entire state of affairs was preventable, and we had a centuries long history of not having this problem.
