There is no legal reason to lock up ammunition. No practical reason either. Unless you're worried about it being a small object choking hazard.
And in a confined area LIKE THE INSIDE OF A SAFE - ammo does not simply cook off. It creates an ever faster chain reaction. An explosion.
The lowest temperature of ignition I’ve found for primer (via the interwebz) is 320F. We have a firesafe for documents and such that is rated to keep whatever’s inside the safe at 125F for two hours.
How would cook-off be possible?
