For my part, while I do tend to treat things like this on a case-by-case basis (and in this case, I’m going to say it’s fairly plausible, but not confirmed), I also recognize that the majority of these claims will be true, specifically 5 and a half percent. Roughly 1 in 19 cases. Not a huge amount by any means, but nowhere near as negligible as many feminists like to claim it is. I’d personally wait to see if there’s some real corroboration about whether his impropriety goes beyond the creepy shit that emerged about him last year.
And since Agnostico mentioned the sheer length of time as a point against her case, I should point out that it can be shockingly difficult for rape cases to actually get anywhere. Case in point, I’m actually subscribed to Chris Hansen’s YouTube page (and yes, it’s THE Chris Hansen) and last night, he streamed this interview with a few of the victims of Dahvie Vanity, lead “singer” of Blood on the Dance Floor. At one point, one of the girls talked about going to the cops and, while not hostile, they proved to be shockingly useless:
And, bear in mind, this was just the singer of a shitty band, one whose pedophilia had been an open secret for years at that point. At this point last year, he had 21 accusers, and probably more. When the concert they had talked about had happened, he had already had a similar arrest in Florida two years prior. Within a few years, diss tracks against his accusers had become so prevalent that they became an entire sub-sub-sub-genre within the band’s oeuvre. How much better do you think they would have done if had someone important (like, say, a Senator who currently [as of 1993] heads the Senate Judiciary Committee) had been accused?
