The question is why should it and is it healthy to fuel tribalism that leads to anarchy and riots. It’s not denying anything to say something is stupidly Detrimental. Many atheist here feel the same way about religious institutions. What value do each of us put on these classifications: race, religion, ethnicity, class, background, history? What value to we place on the actions, words and deeds of the individual? Those are good questions here.Yes, race is a bullshit idea that exists only because the larger society says it does. No, that doesn’t mean that the “just ignore race” plan is at all viable. Why not? Because humans have biases. They may be out in the open, they may be subconscious, they could be conscious but unspoken, but they’re still there. And they will come out. And I strongly suspect that tribalism is the natural result of the human inability to maintain relationships with more than 150 people. You could argue that this is unjust. I would agree with you. That doesn’t make it any less true.
I know race relations have been deteriorating since these issues came out into the open, but that doesn’t mean ignoring them is that viable an option. It’s honestly getting to the point where I suspect this might be the only Viable long-term solution:
Why, yes, that does suck.
