when you turn something you love's head in side out the purpose of a gun goes from plinking cans or making noise in a video game to real life and death. these lessons can not be explained but rather can be only experienced. it makes the kid think twice before he lowers a shot gun to his buddy even if he sure it is unloaded and pull the trigger.
Again, I doubt that shooting a dog is going to teach kids any lesson that having their friends shot isn't or couldn't teach them, and I note that nothing..absolutely nothing appears to have taught you any lesson about the value of human life.
I can't personally say that shooting a dog ever had anything to do with why I don't shoot my friends - but if that's what's keeping you from going full loon I hope you never run out of puppies.
