The best way to goof off as much as possible is to take a job in government....
Point taken, but I'll tell you straight up that working in the engine room of a Navy ship doesn't leave a whole lot of time to goof off. I always laughed at the commercials for Navy recruitment, where they rang the bell for liberty call. If we were under ship's power, Machinery, Boilers, Auxiliaries (like the water purification crew) Generator gang and Electricians got no liberty call. Maybe one of those civilian jobs would've had some goof-off time, idunno. I worked for civilian defense contractors for an additional 27 years after my naval service; I can give you plenty of assurance that the people of the US got (even more than) their money's worth out of me. It's pretty embarrassing to admit, but I worked about 800 hours unpaid on one project, back in the '80s. To be fair, I expected a big promotion out of it. Pff. I got a 3% raise. Assholes.
