RE: Teach Cops to Maim?

If cops don't get enough training to be trusted with a firearm and there is some number...though no official source or mandate to even track this number.. of deaths attributable to cops killing john q, then we have a solvable problem with our government. There may be other issues, problems in society at large - but the state isn't explicitly in control of those things nor do we want them to be. This may produce a fucked up situation - but them's the breaks if we insist on the absurd. Things like unarmed cops in a hellscape full of gun users.
That may suggest which part the absurd end of the notion is. Perhaps it's the hellscape rather than the suggestion that poorly trained agents of the state should not be equipped with the means and empowered with the legal authority to carry out summary executions?
Now, in mere reality, being a cop isn't a dangerous job and the greater mass of guns are inert objects with respect to crime of any kind - as we hear ad infinitum whenever guns and crime comes up. Cops with guns are no more and may be less safe in the majority of situations than without. Even when they manage not to shoot us, they still manage to shoot themselves, and there's no explanation as to why every officer needs to be armed in the first place.
