This is the equivalent of $16.25/hour today. Mr. Ford was well known for not going bankrupt.

He paid well - and for many years got huge returns in terms of employee loyalty. His workers could afford to buy the cars they built.....
Then came the unions - promising "mo money".
It went downhill from there.
I have worked for companies that paid well. I made more in the 1990's in actial dollars than my SO makes now. (And she has the degree).
It is smart for companies to pay well - to employees that work well. It is how you get quality work and a low turnover in personell. You get company loyalty.
When you offer the lowest wages - expect shoddy employee performance.
It is blitheringly stupid for the government to require employers to pay higher wages to employees with no assets.
