After decades of bookkeeping I went and got a degree...in Criminal Justice.
One person I worked for asked why I didn't get a degree in Accounting. I told her I had been doing bookkeeping for years and wanted to learn something else. At no point did I think I would use my Criminal Justice degree, I just wanted to go to school because I didn't have the chance when I was younger. Funny thing is that I list it and it "counts" as having a degree even though it's not in the field where I work.
