Yeah, no shit, turning a peaceful protest into a full-blown riot is wrong and ultimately self-defeating, and non-violent means of protest are far better at effecting change and keeping the optics of your movement good in the long run. Doesn’t mean the protesters didn’t have a damn good point about how raw a deal they’ve been getting. You don’t want riots? Listen to what they have to say and try and address their grievances (assuming, of course, that said grievances actually hold up to scrutiny.)
