We have EVERY right to expect a higher moral and ethical standard from them. If they can’t provide or live up to that standard, they should choose another profession.

Then you won't have any cops.
They are no different than any other schlub on the street - and they will be the first to tell you that.
Their ethics and morals don't come from a textbook or a seminar - but like everone else - a life lived.
Then do a better job of who you hire as cops. Maybe an interview question like, ‘Describe the circumstances under which you would pepper spray a nine year old in the face’ would be helpful.
