“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”
You see that doesn't go over so well with us. We find that very hurtful. Now that is what I know from speaking with fellow brothers and sisters.
So instead of looking at the facts, you proclaim to be offended and that is the end of the discussion. Because Dawkins is right, God literally calls himself Lord Jealous, he does many genocides, he orders gays to be murdered, etc.
Is your solution to turn the blind eye to the terrible things God does in the Bible?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
