And now I’m curious about how Boru got into both, particularly the mental hospital. Was it a voluntary thing or were you committed? If the latter, was this because you attempted suicide and had to go through the usual 10 days? If it’s because the courts gave you an NGBRI, how are you posting this?

Also, anyone who thinks going to an institution is somehow getting off more easily than prison doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Once again, you can be in for longer than you would have if you just went to prison, and literally the only upside is that, if you live in a state with the death penalty, you don’t get the needle in your arm if you’re insane. Hell, even One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest made that clear:



Granted, lobotomies are no longer a thing, and you can’t get ECT unless you specifically consent to it, but that little detail remains.

No big secret. I became violently depressed after the death of my father and was committed for 28 days. Had I not been, I likely would have attempted suicide at some point.

As for the prison thing, I was interned (which means held without charge or benefit of counsel) for seven months after I handed a beer to the relative of a terrorist.
