Ok so what I hear on this one is:
1. Transporting guns in a disapproved manner - again
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5 a loaded firearm has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm.
2. Not registered to carry at the destination. - again, assumed for some since they were charged as possession by previous offenders
we can add
3. Drugs for distribution and previous felonies
Sounds like the very best he was an irresponsible illegal gun owner and worst an irresponsible loon. Yup sounds like the right call again to arrest them as well. So why defend one but not the other?
I think people are getting hung up on intent. To my knowledge we're not policing thought crimes in their entirety yet. It may factor into sentence which it obviously should in these 2 incidences, IMO. Merely from the news article facts, if they're true seem to indicate guilt of both, I don't see how either could be defended.
Maybe we're not focusing on the right angle .... @onlinebiker How/Why would you transport a rack of guns across state lines to check into a hotel for a sporting event the next day?

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
