1. Transporting guns in a disapproved manner - again
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5 a loaded firearm has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm.
2. Not registered to carry at the destination. - again, assumed for some since they were charged as possession by previous offenders
we can add
3. Drugs for distribution and previous felonies
Sounds like the very best he was an irresponsible illegal gun owner and worst an irresponsible loon. Yup sounds like the right call again to arrest them as well. So why defend one but not the other?
I think people are getting hung up on intent. To my knowledge we're not policing thought crimes in their entirety yet. It may factor into sentence which it obviously should in these 2 incidences, IMO. Merely from the news article facts, if they're true seem to indicate guilt of both, I don't see how either could be defended.
Maybe we're not focusing on the right angle .... @onlinebiker How/Why would you transport a rack of guns across state lines to check into a hotel for a sporting event the next day?
First off - I would not go to Illinois. I don' t support states that believe they can take away Constitional Rights.
I have traveled with guns - including air travel with up to 5 weapons and over 1000 rounds of ammo.. No problems - except once in SeaTac I got pulled into a back room and scrutinized by a TSA supervisor who I correctly pegged as a former spook. A good guy. We actually ended up having a good debate about the virtues of .308 over .223.....
I use a double sided case with redundant locks.
I once had to open the case in the terminal to inspect it - as some idiot had cut off the padlocks ( I always left the built in combo locks unlocked - or they would destroy those) This DESPITE the attatched declaration sheet that stated the case contained cleared firearms.
It caused a minor panic. Several people ran away.
I HAD to inspect - no choice -for if the guns were missing I would have to report it.
Who cut the lock? Dunno. Probably just some whacko who wanted to fondle an AR-10.
