It doesn’t matter if it’s a domicile or not. I assume most states have the qualifier for restricted access. In one case there were minors, in the other case there were felons. In both cases every maid and clerk still have access to the room, unless u are in it and dead bolted. I don’t know if these two hotels have them but what about those mini fridges with alcohol, or hotel bars attached. And all of the above is plenty more than it simply being against hotel policy, above and beyond local restrictions. They were both stupid and both charged, their intent really doesn’t make any of it legal, it can only serve to add more charges or heavier sentencing.
I’ll answer my own question. If I owned handguns, ammo and rifles I would seriously consider why I would need to transport them( hint self defense isn’t an answer for more than 1). Then I would check my state and destination state carry laws, and every place/ transportation in between. I would then check with the hotel about policy and safes. Only then could I make the decision to travel. When I got there I would ensure they were locked up or locked to some the thing, if in my own safe. I wouldn’t load them from the time I left till the time I needed them. I would ensure they were kept out of other peoples hands at all times. That all seems perfectly legal and safe doesn’t it?

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
