In one case there were minors, in the other case there were felons. In both cases every maid and clerk still have access to the room, unless u are in it and dead bolted. I don’t know if these two hotels have them but what about those mini fridges with alcohol, or hotel bars attached. And all of the above is plenty more than it simply being against hotel policy, above and beyond local restrictions. They were both stupid and both charged, their intent really doesn’t make any of it legal, it can only serve to add more charges or heavier sentencing.
I’ll answer my own question. If I owned handguns, ammo and rifles I would seriously consider why I would need to transport them( hint self defense isn’t an answer for more than 1). Then I would check my state and destination state carry laws, and every place/ transportation in between. I would then check with the hotel about policy and safes. Only then could I make the decision to travel. When I got there I would ensure they were locked up or locked to some the thing, if in my own safe. I wouldn’t load them from the time I left till the time I needed them. I would ensure they were kept out of other peoples hands at all times. That all seems perfectly legal and safe doesn’t it?
It certainly matters that it is a domicile - as the right to protect oneself in your home applies.
While I would be unlikely to load my.rifle in the same situation - thete is nothing illegal about doing so.
As far as leaving guns in the room - I am unsure of Illinois laws. Many states DO have liability laws concerning this. Michigan does. If your gun is stolen - you can be held civilly and criminally liable for it' s improper use - UNLESS it is stolen from a locked gun safe. However - there is no law that says you MUST keep it in a safe. AFAIK ILlinois law reads about the same.
So is it stupid to leave a loaded gun in a hotel room when you leave? Duh.... Of course it is.
Is it illegal?
Nobody seems to be able to find that section of law..
Transport doesn' t count.
And stupid isn' t illegal. If it were we would have way more felons....

Your reductio ad absurdum trying to equate the two cases ( which are not equal)shows your failure to present a valid arguement.
