They do that now (although not enough) because people write and talk about clergy raping kids and put pressure on them. Before, the clergy was untouchable, and it still is untouchable in too many parts of the world because people are afraid to talk about it.

Someone who respected God, would never put a child in that position of psychological turmoil.
