Fact - in the realm of the spiritual and regardless of physical age, communication with the Divine, the Almighty, vis-à-vis prayer... is imperative. "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” - John 4:24
Prayer is different, but arguably akin to, and no less effective than our telecommunication systems. Communication is exchanged, resulting in desired action and results.
If one doesn't communicate with another/others under applicable circumstances, how will one know anything one needs to know?

Some prominent points on prayer from the Biblical perspective:
“Pray without ceasing,” - 1 Thessalonians 5:17
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6:6
“He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer.” - Psalm 102:17
“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But the prayer of the upright is His delight.” - Proverbs 15:8
“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.” - Isaiah 38:5
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” - Matthew 26:41
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
