It's about as simple as addressing people by their preferred personal pronouns, and omg isn't that so controversial and difficult.

Seems to me that some people are so insecure about their own sexual preferences/identity that they feel very threatened by anyone who does not appear to meet their personal stereotypes of a heterosexual person of either gender.
