God has never cropped up in our household, hardly ever; we've got better things to do really; they aren't religious at all, and I'm thankful for it. I asked my Mum once if she did believe, and she said with much doubt and quite dubiously, "yeah", but I know she would become more of an atheist, if she did the things I did, and read Dawkins.
Hmmm, I don't understand how anyone could walk away from their family if they were an adamant believer, but I don't understand if the parents are being cruel or malicious, and just sucking up to their God. If they weren't a pressuring believer, then it would be fine.
Don't understand the abandonment at just a slight hint of a belief in God.
Unless they've got parents like the woman from Carrie...if so, get the hell out of there!
