Mythical exemplars are supposed to be the diagram we live our lives by, and doing so....it's believed by those who accept the religion, can make -us- that special man. Bundled way down in that onion, is the idea that no matter how many of those special people you gathered together they would be of one unitary mind on a given thing.
And yet, it seems that this "special man" mentality is what most of today's religions preach and have been preaching for the last millennia.
