Yes...they would, because "people" aren't nice. The man in the book is not described as a saint. He's merely claimed to be after the fact and in contradiction to the fact of his alleged actions and beliefs. If "jesus" came up today he'd be standing next to Bin Laden. No one, not even the christians™ agree with him, anymore.
Jesus, meek and mild, invented hell. Nothing else he ever had to say matters, because, as he told it, people who disagreed with him would be thrown in divine Gitmo, subject to godly enhanced interrogation, for all that amounts to.
"Jesus" is not..is......not...a permissive figure for our societies today. "Jesus" is some retrograde bullshit who will hurt you if you don't agree. Period. There's no rehabilitating christianity. It is what is is. It is what it's been for 2k years. Bluntly, chirstian belief....is evil. Full stop.
