Here’s a thought: it’s plain that the Supremes aren’t likely to kick Trump out of the election entirely. But what if they were to kick it back to the states to decide? That’s a real possibility, since the Court has been unwilling to involve itself in the electoral process any more than they absolutely have to.
The MAGA faithful who (by some accounts) make up roughly a third of the Republican rank and file, aren’t really interested in politics - they’re just interested in Trump. If Trump is off the ballot in blue or blue-leaning states, it seems to me that a lot of the MAGAts would simply not show up to vote, as they aren’t particularly concerned about down-ballot races in a presidential election year. This would strongly weaken any Republican advantage in the red-leaning districts of blue states, and could result in a significant Democratic majority in both houses.
I can dream, can’t I?
