Theists, I eagerly await your No True Scotsman fallacies. I'm curious though. Would Jesus' followers argue that if Christianity dies off will the world, according to their deities' plan, end? Seeing how there's no point for any more people to be born since no one else can be saved? I wonder if the Muslims share that egocentricity too.
The fall of Christendom is an interesting phenomenon. I think it has a lot to do with our changing understanding of religion's role in people's lives and the advent of universal human rights. The shift between modernism and postmodernism has been hard for the church as well, since the church has modeled itself around modernism since the reformation. Overall I look forward to the fall of Christendom and the Christendom ideal, because it has been so harmful, especially in recent years. I don't think that this will mean the end of Christianity, but we will definitely need to have another reformation. I think you can already see a dramatic paradigm shift with the Fresh Expressions movement in England, but who knows how much the church will change. I know most people on here have their fingers crossed for the church disappearing though.
