The political conversation in this country the last nine years allows for shitbagging going forward to be accepted as "discourse". We have a huge swath of people primed and ready for more racist, sexist, xenophobic statements that even ten years ago would have been unacceptable. Yet now 70+ million Americans find it votable.
Trump is not a problem, but the failure of the justice system is the main problem. This guy should have been in prison for all the laws he broke and not a Presidential candidate. The decision to put the whole justice system to a halt and "let voters defeat him at the Presidential elections" is a tragedy. This is why the Roman Empire fell: people stopped caring for the laws and just arbitrarily proclaimed their own emperors.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
