The way I see it is that if the dictatorship was really just one voting away then it was bound to happen sooner or later. Some may say that Republicans needed to lose these elections to learn a lesson and change, but they wouldn't change just like they didn't change after the elections in 2020. Fox News and Newsmax wouldn't go away either.
The only thing left now is to wait and see. People believe them, and the only arguments you have now are hypotheses of what they might do according to what they said. If Republicans want dictatorship, people will need to be convinced into that by what they'll do.
Let them dig their own grave. The game has obviously changed if the dictatorship is now one of only two options on the ballot.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
