The cruelty was the point.  Miller et al believed it would be deterrent.  Clearly, it was not.  From enforcement issues, conditions at the camps, to the weaponized incompetence that lead to so many children being lost in the system.  All of it the intended outcome.    This time, they intend to deport those children, american citizens.

During the Trump administration, encounters of illegal immigration (with a better funded ICE and BP) was kept under 450k-per-year, minus in 2019.

As earlier mentioned, every year of the Biden presidency has seen over 1.6 million immigrants encountered coming into the country; both by invitation of Harris, Pelosi and other high ranking DNC party members as well as through the repeal of the Trump-era immigration policies.

2019 saw a spike in encounters, however this is simply due to the fact that many states began strictly enforcing border control/revoked visas and illegal immigrants would try multiple times, increasing the encounters as well as due to famine in Central America causing a major spike.

These numbers are all per Customs and Border Protection.

Starting in 2020, people were too busy dying of COVID to do much migrating.

And then there's that whole thing about The Donald not wanting COVID is HIS country...people weren't supposed to die on his watch.
