Blood and soil day has officially arrived!
May 30, 1890. John A Logan, commander in chief of the grand army of the republic (a precursor to the modern day dept of vet affairs) proclaims this Decoration Day - to honor the union fallen. The VA itself would later credit the groundswell to one Mary Ann Williams (nee Howard) of Columbus Georgia, the home of the infantry. Her proposal, in 1866, was to spread flowers on the graves of all us soldiers, union confederate and otherwise. From the Tyler household, now demolished, she drafted an anonymous letter "To The Ladies of The South".
A century later a son of the Tyler house and a daughter of the Howard house would meet in the only state east of ole miss whose capital was not occupied by union forces and fall in love. They (wrongly) believed, after many vigorous attempts, that they could not conceive. So they turned to adoption. The us administration for children and families introduced them to a 3 year old boy from a 2nd gen immigrant family on hard times. First of eight. Descendants of a ww2 war bride. He would go on to serve honorably in kosovo, afghanistan, and iraq. Earning his eib, his ranger tab, a distinguished service cross, and two purple hearts. They would eventually conceive, their first a daughter, who also served with honor in iraq as a chemical and biological warfare specialist who, without specialized training or explicit authorization, in the battle for mosul, single handedly extricated a class of elementary school children from an active firefight before being shot..in the spine...by one of the childrens own parents, fighting for the insurgency. These actions are still up for review and reward.
Over one million soldiers have died pursuing and maintaining the american experiment on and from every continent in direct and complimentary proportion to the ethnic demographics of the country at any point in-time-of-conflict. This, we'll defend. Woe to the fool who, believing they and they alone own purchase or deed to this country, finds themselves on a field opposite the sons and daughters of liberty. These United States are not, in fact, a collection of people with a shared ancestry or biological heritage. We are the globes premier melting pot of people who, from all corners, have signed on to the idea of a place where that does not matter. Of an imperfect union. Where our allegiance to principles and institutions is of far geater import than being fortuitously born.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
