If a couple of people want to put the match to a few of their personal belongings (including books) for whatever reason, it's their call as long as they don't start a godammned forest fire or something. Burning books is strange, but again, there's a wide gulf between tossing back a couple beers and torching a single copy of the Torah and a large body of official authority scouring the countryside for heretical material to feed the near constant bonfires of ignorance. One is distasteful (to some of us), the other is a massive abuse of authority and absolutely terrifying to contemplate.
