Well, I hate being wrong as much as the next person.
But I'm not ashamed to say that I can see why my initial view is subject to flaws.
I still think that there are times when we absolutely shouldn't be using baiting, but perhaps those situations are not as common as I originally conceived.
I retract my original statement, at least in part. Kudos to all. I don't object to having woolly thinking pointed out.
EDIT: Most specifically, its crippling to my case that what we say is irrelevant to the fundamentalists who wish to paint us as devil worshippers, and jokes about it, or more to the point, lack of jokes, would have a next to negligible effect on this view.

Self-authenticating private evidence is useless, because it is indistinguishable from the illusion of it. ― Kel, Kelosophy Blog
If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?
The f**king janitor or the dude who runs the waterslide. Throughout history every mystery. Ever solved has turned out to be. Not Magic. ― Tim Minchin, Storm
