Its not just you. I've always considered myself atheist from a young age. It was only quite recently that I reexamined what I believed, and really wanted to put them to the test.
When theists call atheism a belief, that is very much me at a younger age. I wasn't even aware of the actual science and evidence for things, I just felt that things made less sense if you threw God into the mix and I believed that there was no God. That was it more or less.
In many respects I "reconverted", I found myself reading the theistic arguments rather than the non-theistic interpretation, and considering them for myself without going through the medium of someone who already agreed with me.
Intelligent theists really do put up an apparently very solid apologetic argument for God. They are rare, but do exist. Much like atheists, there are many, I realise, if I WERE to believe in God, even I could run rings around some of them in a debate.
I don't want to be that type of atheist anymore. For psychological reasons I cannot put my finger on, I have developed a need to ensure I cannot be "fooled" by the persuasive arguments that rely on ignorance to work.
I constantly seek to challenge what I "Know" but only "Know" based on my personal conviction it is the case.
That may change in time, many people on this forum are very evidently jaded by hearing the same stupid argument a thousand times.. and who can blame them.
Self-authenticating private evidence is useless, because it is indistinguishable from the illusion of it. ― Kel, Kelosophy Blog
If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?
