The US back whoever they think is the (next) regional power and exploit 'm as their proxy.
And they drop 'm like a hot potato again as soon as that has become more opportune.
They were fast friends with Saddam Hussein and the Taliban once too, remember?
The only exception to that m.o. is Israel. The US back Israel to the hilt. Whatever fascist crimes it commits.

You prefer the alternative? That Assad's troops massacre and execute tens of thousands of innocent, unarmed citizens?
