When I was in Turkey a few years ago several of the people we met expressed deep reservations about joining the EU. They seemed to think it was not best for Turkey.
I also had one charming old lady ask me ( ME of all people!) "what is wrong with Mr. Bush? Why does he support the Kurds?"
I told her what was wrong with Bush. I even cleaned it up a little.
Well, that charming old lady knew probably very little than what his grandchildren told him. Bush never directly supported the kurds, whatsoever. I'm sure he wasn't even properly informed of what the point in supporting them was.
He was probably told that they were just supporting the ones in northern Iraq. But little did he know perhaps that by doing that, he was doing us great damage. Or maybe the ones who are behind him did so. I personally did like Bush. His face looked so innocent and sadly ignorant sometimes. I don't think he was a bad man. But I don't think that no one is "bad", just looking after their own interests. It's time we start doing the same, and this does not require us to join the EU.
