They were mortal men (kings) claiming god-like status. Which leads me to believe Ragnarök is regurgitated stories.

And I'm not concerned about ancient man worshipping idols and statues. they don't count. The Bible says we are to worship "the one and only true God" of the Universe. And God is surely not a cement statue, or a wooden idol.
