You have to keep in mind that from these people's perspective, it's not really hate. They think an all-powerful being who created everything finds homosexuality sinful, and in so far as they wish to respect the commands and desires of said being, they must fight homosexuality and never give in to legitimatizing it. From their outlook, homosexuality is one of many severe sins along with murder, adultery, stealing etc. They don't view it all in the same way that we view for instance issues of race or gender. Homosexuality under their outlook is a conscious willful act. They can't accept any sort of genetic or environmental explanation for homosexuality because that would mean the Bible condemns an activity that can't be helped. Homosexuals to them are willful deviants little different than murderers.
