That's just it God is not merciless. Legalistic Churches are.
My wife and i were expelled from such a place after 10 years of dedicated service from me. This was after they found out she had a 250 dollar aday Heroin habit. They told us She need to repent before the church and pray that God would heal her and make her stop. She was not ready to come forward but she did ask, or rather we asked for help. The elders response: "we are not currently able to help someone in your condition, find another church. You are welcome back when you sort things out."
At the time, devastating news especially after all the hard work, programs, and teaching I did there. I knew going (at the time) into my new marriage that she was a recovering addict. I didn't know fell off the wagon after receiving a shot of novicain at the dentist, getting her teeth fixed for the wedding..
I by nature am a complacent person and I know without this shove outside the Church i would have never truly found God Only the shadow of God that was proper up in that place. The God I found was The God of the bible which offers nothing but mercy when you simply ask, seek, knock for it, and forgive as you have been forgiven.
