Which is troubling for the idea of god, imho, Spock. I suppose I am just supposed to sit around and wait to see if god chose me or not, so that I might find myself in a "better" playpen. Well, I think I'll pass on that one. I've often mentioned that were there to be no doubt that any such god existed, or that such a god "gave me a ring" at all...I still wouldn't be a christian, and I'd probably hang up the phone. I'd like to think that, but who knows, maybe I'm such a weak minded piece of shit that I'd capitulate on this to save my (at that point worthless) hide.
I suppose that at least indirectly, Calvinists and I would agree on one thing. Our "nature" may not be something we get to pick and choose from. It's in my nature to demand more of a deity and of myself, for example. Whether or not it's in my nature to remain consistent with that principle- meh, who knows?

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
