No, not really. Some of my extended family are church goers and one of their core beliefs without exception is that "Jesus died for our sins" or "suffered for us". I have witnessed some of them almost in tears with what they imagined Jesus suffered on their behalf. Another core principle (at this Anglican church) is that the sacrifice of Jesus meant that animal sacrifices as described in the OT were no longer necessary.

I am not sure if these positions are theologically correct, but they are undoubtedly what is preached at them from the pulpit (I have heard it).

I appreciate that this is not what you think Catfish.
