There are female rugby leagues... If this boy was transsexual and wanted to play rugby with women she could. There's probably even coed rugby leagues. I would guess playing rugby was a rather minor consideration to this person's feelings about their body/gender. Being an athlete does not necessarily mean being the pinnacle of masculinity. I get the point you're trying to make, but it's a little off...
