To this I say: I've been there. The only good things in life are what we make for ourselves and take pride from. There are always new things and views to explore. Don't give up.
As far as being raised in an abusive home goes, I've been there, too. It'll tear you down in often insidious ways, but the reality is once you are out of that environment, it can be uphill from there.
