- homosexual sex and relationships is a sin.

- definition of sin: Anything that goes against god's "explicit" desires/wishes for the human race.
pocaraca's explanation: "explicit" meaning written in the bible, mostly NT, but every now and then, you can pick and choose some very particular things of the OT. So homosexuality is not desired by this god thing, and it ultimately punishes people who indulge in this behavior.
Clearly, this concept of sin intertwines with the perception of the common people at the time of such behavior as bad and obviously counter-producent in biological terms.
It's a bit like sexual relations between siblings. The collective knowledge of the people has observed that these relations have a higher probability of yielding defective humans.
Homosexual relations yield no humans at all. An obvious no-no, when you want to occupy a lot of land.
