Well, strictly speaking, it is not that simple. Yes, their upbringing certainly has a lot to do with it, but my father chose to work in Corrections. He's probably noticed the inmates there are more likely to be black. This enforces a schema (a sort of preconceived notion) he may hold about black people being bad news or what have you. Some mindfulness and understanding of sociology and psychology would help, but my parents are too proud to listen to me (or anyone that disagrees with them).
