The Hitch was always a thorn in the side to religious pomposity as personified by Cumfart and his cronies but he was more than capable of standing his own corner. Now he's unable to defend himself, he's seen as an easy target. As for Prof Dawkins, he's British and well spoken, not to mention eminently well educated. They don't need much more of an excuse than that.
