I'm explaining how the show portrayed transsexuals. The show didn't reveal that Miriam was a pornographic actor either. Like I said, so much for honesty - in the show. Why would anyone in their right mind want to represent and portray others like them in such a clearly revolting way?

Because monies. I mean, have you seen how gays, lesbians, and bisexual peeps are displayed on TV? TV thrives on stereotype and caricature.

She was in porn before and after "Something About Miriam", obviously. And yes, that's exactly how I think they found her, otherwise how else did they so easily find someone who was ruthless enough, selfish enough, heatless enough to do what "she" did in the show????

Interesting answer, Violet. Prostitutes feel discriminated against.... but then, hey that's their problem if you ask me. The VAST MAJORITY of prostitutes, at least in Australia, are regular injecting drug users. That's not a stereotype, it's true. A couple of years back a 17 year old woman was found DOA in a Canberra brothel, and yes she OD'd on narcotics. I'm 29, and I don't understand why any adult older than say 22 would want to have sex with a 17 year old, can you imagine you call the brothel and order a prostitute, and they send you a 17 year old? That's what happens when no one gives a shit about the health, safety and regulation of prostitution. So in a way, there is BS that certainly should be cleaned up, as for "prostitutes right's", as far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve to have any. But I do see them joining in with the GLBT-P movement in the future. Anyway, carry on.

I'm a fisherman, and I feel discriminated against... with good reason. Specifically the Eastern Cook Inlet Setnet industry was shut down last year... Drifters were open, West side was open, hell... even the sports fishermen were open. It's really not a professional's problem if they are being pointlessly discriminated against.

As long as prostitution remains flatly illegal, it will be deeply involved in human trade, drugs, and the violation of minors. I'm all for the health, safety, and regulation of prostitution... but even when those are all better, such illegality won't completely stop. And again, this isn't often on the prostitutes... it is a dangerous job, and customers can be anyone from minors to hardened criminals to infected with a horrible STI to dealers to pimps who demand a little more than their share of the earnings. In the current state of the job... there is literally nothing that *prostitutes* can do about these things.

They are social constructs, so it's pretty easy. You'll notice that it's hard to identify which dogs exhibit masculine qualities as opposed to feminine ones outside of whether they dominate or submit?

If it were based firmly in biology and not in gender roles, then you'd be seeing it in non-human animals, particularly the 'higher mammals'
