For way to long, with our capitalist ways, we've raped the rest of the world. At some point the rest of the world was going to become sufficiently affluent enough themselves to have the ability to challenge for the wealth.
We can't force the doors locked and keep these now educated, wealthy enough competitors back.
Also, if our welfare system is that bloated that immigrants will take work for less money than we will, then we need to lower our sights a bit.
This is a capitalist system, and capitalists have to keep prospering. At some point everything must even out I think. We have the rise of China and then India to contend with and that impact upon the global economy.
