I am a commercial fisherwoman, which comes fairly shortly after farming in its yearly mortality rate... while any number of things could be the reason I wind up dead (close cases happen frequently), if I do die while on the job: I've had a part in that, however small. Simply due to my decision to work in an environment that has a good chance to kill me
In the same line of thinking, a police officer who gets shot in the line of duty contributred to its occurance. That doesn't mean we should just dismiss the concerns of the officers, though.
