The universe in which we live is a closed system; it isn't affected by any external systems. Thus if they exist, it is impossible to detect them.
What is the difference between an undetectable external system and no external system? I still don't get why scientist would pick a mathematical model and even elevate it to the status of Theory when it doesn't have evidence to back it up.
